Sash Windows- Practical Repairs

The loss of traditional windows from our older buildings poses one of the major threats to our heritage. This course focuses on the repair of traditional sliding sash windows.
It sets out to show the significance of traditional windows by looking at how fashion and technical development influenced their design over the centuries. Detailed and practical advice will be provided on their maintenance, repair and thermal upgrading.
Over the three days of training, through classroom based theory of repair and maintenance, and hands-on workshop practical sessions you will gain an understanding of:.
- The history of Traditional timber sliding sash windows
- Sash removal, re-cording and balancing
- Conservation principles
- Deconstruction, traditional joints and rods
- Repair methods
- Choice of materials for repairs
- Glass, putty & paint
- Improving thermal efficiency
This course is suitable for people who are competent in Carpentry, joinery and woodworking.
This course is subsidised thanks to funding from the Community Renewal Fund. Places are limited and applications from people who live or work in Carmarthenshire will be given priority.
