Academic achievement for Tywi Centre Tutors

01/11/2020

Tutors Tom Duxbury and Joe Moriarty have both accomplished academic success over the Summer.

Earlier in 2020, Joe successfully completed a Master degree in Sustainable Conservation from The Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff University. If you have a spare moment his dissertation makes for a very interesting read ‘The mortar particle size and distribution of a Welsh vernacular farmworkers cottage in the parish of Llandeilo Tal y Bont’.

Joe Moriarty began his career in heritage construction back in 2013 when he completed the Specialist Applied Skills Programme in Heritage Plastering at the Tywi Centre. Joe was already an experienced and qualified plasterer but had a passion for old buildings and a drive to continually add to his skills and knowledge. Following many years of working on heritage projects, the Tywi Centre were fortunate that Joe returned to join their team of skilled, experienced, and qualified tutors.

Joe said ‘It’s great to be back at the Tywi Centre as tutor. I have really enjoyed working with learners from Pembrokeshire College and with the heritage plastering NVQ3 learners.’

Tom Duxbury, our Lead Trainer at Tywi Centre has achieved MCIOB Chartered Builder status which is comparable to a Bachelor’s degree. Gaining this internationally recognised qualification is a tremendous achievement and recognition of his true professionalism in the field of Heritage Construction. Tom’s dedication to the industry together with his capabilities and experience are recognised by becoming a Chartered member.

Tom explained ‘as a tutor it is crucial that I am consistently improving my knowledge and skills and that I’m up to date with industry changes and developments. This allows me to pass on the most relevant and current information to our learners.’

Congratulations to them both!
