An Introduction to Repair, Maintenance and Energy Efficiency in Old Buildings

For an old building to be energy efficient, it needs to be in good repair. The first part of this course will help you to understand how old buildings work and some of the more common repair and maintenance issues to look out for. The second part equips you with insights into cost-effective measures designed to lower energy bills and minimize environmental impact, all while preserving the historical charm of your property

Practical lime plastering and pointing for Homeowners

Whilst big jobs often require a heritage plastering professional, patch repairs are often easily undertaken by the owner of a building. In this largely practical 1-day course you will learn the essentials of testing your existing mortars; selecting appropriate aggregates and lime; mixing and plastering and pointing application.

 

Traditional windows- surveys & producing condition reports

This 1-day course will support building professionals to undertake condition surveys on historic windows and determine the extent of repair that they require. It will include essential information for applications for Listed Building Consent covering: the significance of historic windows; the components; identifying decay and its causes; drawing profiles; recognising the extent of repair required; specifying materials and finishes; and writing condition surveys.

This course is suitable for people who are currently trained as carpenters and would like to improve their skills in the area of repairs to traditional joinery.
