We are thrilled to unveil an exciting new partnership with the Heart of Pembrokeshire Project—a unique initiative aimed at equipping Pembrokeshire residents with the skills needed to preserve and celebrate the region’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
This place-making anchor project, part of Pembrokeshire County Council’s Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF), will run from September to December 2024. The Fund is dedicated to fostering community pride, enhancing life opportunities, and investing in local businesses, people, and places.
The Heart of Pembrokeshire Project is not just about conservation; it’s about revitalizing the arts, culture, and creative activities that make this region unique. Our talented team will lead a comprehensive heritage skill training program, combining hands-on experiences, case studies, theory and accredited learning. By the end of this program, participants will have a deep understanding of their local heritage and will have contributed to strengthening the sense of community in Pembrokeshire.
For homeowners, the ‘Repair, Maintenance, and Energy Efficiency in older buildings’ is an excellent starting point for anyone looking to maximize the potential of their historic property by learning how to care for it properly. If your building is listed, we are offering a course to guide you through the process of applying for Listed Building Consent. For people wanting to learn more practical skills, we’ll dive deep into the art of ‘Working with Lime in Buildings,’ using a traditional Pembrokeshire Cottage as a case study to explore common building defects and their solutions. Central to this course is understanding the various types of lime, along with their preparation, application, and aftercare.
We’re also thrilled to support an exciting work experience program by offering a weeklong ‘Introduction to Masonry’ course, led by Local Master Mason and Tutor Oliver Coe. This hands-on course will equip participants with valuable heritage skills while allowing them to contribute to the preservation and celebration of local history. Additionally, for those working in the heritage construction sector, we offer an accredited Level 3 Award in the Repair and Maintenance of Traditional Buildings.
Our partnership with the Heart of Pembrokeshire Project underscores our commitment to preserving Welsh heritage through high-quality education. By engaging local residents, we aim to foster a deep connection to the area’s cultural legacy and instil a sense of pride in this shared heritage.
Nell Hellier, Tywi Centre Senior Built Heritage Officer, expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration:
“We are truly delighted to partner with Pembrokeshire County Council on the Heart of Pembrokeshire Project. Local communities play a vital role in preserving our nation’s heritage. With over 15 years of experience, we’re excited to share our expertise in heritage construction skills. Through our training, we hope to empower everyone to embrace their role as guardians of Wales’ and the UK’s remarkable built heritage.”
This initiative offers a unique opportunity for people to learn and refine heritage skills, ensuring that Pembrokeshire’s history and culture are preserved for generations to come. We invite everyone to get involved in this transformative project.
