Announcing our Partnership with Pembroke Town Walls Trust!

We at the Tywi Centre are thrilled to be partnering with Pembroke Town Walls Trust (PTWT) in our mission to preserve architectural heritage through stone masonry training. Over the past three years, we've collaborated on a range of specialised programs.

The Pembroke Town Walls Trust is overseen by eight local Trustees and operates as a Charitable Incorporated organisation registered in Wales. Its mission is to safeguard and preserve the distinctive archaeology of the Pembroke town walls, enhance public understanding and access to heritage, and highlight the international significance of this historic site. Through collaboration with partners like us, the Pembroke Town Walls Trust’s conservation efforts protect the town walls and contribute to the social and economic well–being of our local community by fostering skills development.

Together, our organisations are committed to ensuring that Pembroke's historic walls remain a source of pride and benefit for generations to come.

Through our partnership with the Pembroke Town Walls Trust, we are excited to expand our heritage stone masonry training program to benefit a wider audience beyond Pembrokeshire College learners. We will provide training opportunities not only for students but also for wall owners, local residents, and construction professionals too.

PTWT have recently launched a two-week course introducing five Level 1 learners to traditional stone masonry, where students had the unique privilege of being trained by Oliver Coe, a respected local Master Mason, while working on a segment of the historic town walls.

Looking ahead, we are offering a series of free courses over the coming months tailored for owners and caretakers of historic buildings – community custodians of our cherished architectural heritage! Whether owners are responsible for town walls or pre-1919 properties in Pembrokeshire, these courses are designed to equip individuals with essential skills for preserving treasured parts of history.

Most courses will be held at Foundry House on Pembroke Commons, with some sessions available online for convenience:

  • Wednesday 8th May, 10am - 4pm: A guide to the essential repair and maintenance of your historic property - for property owners
