New Date for Listed Buildings Fair

10/02/2020

A new date has been set for the storm-hit listed buildings fair being organised by Carmarthenshire County Council’s traditional building skills training and education centre, the Tywi Centre.

The event, planned for Sunday, February 9, at Ty Newton, Parc Dinefwr, Llandeilo, was postponed because of the forecasted Storm Ciara.
A new date has now been set for Sunday, March 8, at the same venue.
The fair will be the first of its kind the centre has organised and will be an opportunity to meet listed building experts all under one roof.
Owners and custodians of traditional buildings - both listed and not-listed - are invited to attend, along with contractors, agents, architects and surveyors keen to learn more about working on historic buildings.
“Join us at Parc Dinefwr for an informative day with people who love your home as much as you!” said Nell Hellier, senior built heritage officer for Carmarthenshire County Council, who is one of the organisers.
Shed continued: “We are here to help answer all your questions and bust all those Listed Building myths.
“Expertise in all things listed buildings will be under one roof giving people who come the chance to raise all the questions they ever wanted to ask from a breadth of experts with a range of knowledge about listed buildings, repair and maintenance, energy efficiency, training and development and the listed building consent process.
“There will also be lots of tradestands to be explored hosted by experts from contactors, suppliers, agents, architects, building conservation officers, Cadw, National Trust and many more, plus there will be six free informative talks.”
The timetable of the talks is as follows: 10 am - Why old buildings need to breathe: historic construction, materials and methods with Cliff Blundell from The Lime Company of West Wales; 11 am - Basic guide to lime and its uses with Nell Hellier, senior built heritage officer, Carmarthenshire County Council; 12 noon - A guide to information with Cadw and Nell Hellier; 1 pm - Repair and Maintenance with Tom Duxbury, course tutor at the Tywi Centre; 2 pm - Energy Efficiency; 3 pm - open discussion forum.
The fair is free to attend and will be open from 9.30 am – 5 pm.
