Llandeilo Market Hall is given a new life

December 2020

A £3.8m project is under way at Llandeilo Market Hall thanks to a £1.4m grant from the Welsh Government’s Building for the Future Fund. This Grade II listed provisions market was constructed in the 1830s and has been a key part of Llandeilo’s history up until 2002 when it became disused.

The Building for the Future Fund, now part of the Transforming Towns Programme, aims to regenerate town centres by bringing disused buildings back into use, create economic opportunities and increase footfall.  Following several aborted third party attempts to resurrect the building, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Economic Development Team, with the support of the Planning and many other CCC teams, have taken on this exciting refurbishment project, to return it to community and business use.  It will provide: a new employment space; an events venue; a market hall and a restaurant and cafeteria.  It is expected that 1249m2 of floor space will be created and refurbished, catering for 17 SME’s and accommodating 45 jobs.

It is expected to be completed by September 2022 and open for use by December 2022
