Carmarthenshire’s traditional building skills training and education centre and CITB-approved training organisation, the Tywi Centre, has recently been ‘on the road’ delivering a successful training session to one of North Wales’ trusted builders and commercial contractors.

Based in Llandeilo, the Tywi Centre, delivered the ‘Introduction to working with lime in buildings’ training in St. Asaph with T. G. Williams Builders Ltd.

Explained Tom Duxbury, course tutor: “The training for T. G. Williams was, a bespoke course for six of their plasterers and site managers.

"We had a mixture of classroom-based presentations and interactive discussions aimed at informing the delegates on how to identify, select and specify both lime and aggregates for conservation works.

“On-site, at St. Beuno's Jesuit Retreat, we had a day-and-a-half of looking at different mixing techniques and hands-on practical application of a variety of lime-based plasters. “Health and safety, as well as the sustainable nature of these traditional products was also part of the information that was imparted to promote the use of these traditional materials.”

Added Tom: “The course aimed to provide practitioners with the knowledge and confidence to specify and use appropriate materials for the long-term benefit of the building.

The Tywi Centre promotes the care and repair of the old buildings of Wales through providing information, training and support to homeowners, builders, agents and building professionals.
