Uncover the story behind every sash window — and learn how to protect it.

This hands-on, one-day course is designed for building professionals who work with historic buildings and want to build their expertise in assessing and reporting on traditional timber sash windows.

You'll gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to carry out detailed condition surveys and make informed decisions about repair and conservation. This course is especially valuable for those involved in applications for Listed Building Consent, giving you the tools to justify your proposals with confidence.

What you’ll learn:

+ Why historic sash windows matter — their heritage significance
+ The anatomy of traditional windows: key components & joinery
+ How to spot decay, diagnose its causes, and assess condition
+ How to draw accurate profiles to support repair plans
+ Determining the extent of repair required – and when to replace (or not!)
+ Specifying appropriate materials and finishes
+ Writing clear, effective condition reports that stand up to scrutiny

By the end of the day, you’ll be equipped to preserve the beauty, function, and historical integrity of sash windows for the next generation.
