Saving energy and saving Carmarthenshire’s historic buildings

27/01/2022

Saving energy and saving Carmarthenshire’s historic buildings – The new Carmarthenshire Council Place and Sustainability Department is leading the way in informing local people as part of their march towards Zero Carbon.

At this time of year who doesn’t want to make their old home more cosy; who doesn’t want to reduce their energy bills?  The Tywi Centre is teaming up with other experts in the field of Energy Efficiency and is delivering a number of courses over the next 6 months to help people to make the right choices as they plan their energy efficiency improvements to their old building.

The 1-day Improving Energy Efficiency in Traditional (older) Buildings course has been specially designed to support owners and custodians of old buildings make decisions about how to improve the energy efficiency of their old homes and commercial properties.  It will outline why traditional buildings need to be considered differently, guide participants towards selecting appropriate materials, highlight the risks that need to be taken into account and provide guidance to support people moving forward with their energy saving installations.

The second course is the accredited 2-day Level 3 Award in Energy Efficiency Measures for Older and Traditional Buildings and is ideal for specifiers, designers and installers.  It focuses on some of the challenges of making these notoriously draughty buildings more energy efficient whilst ensuring they continue to be sustained for future generations to enjoy.  Sam Hale from the Welsh Historic Building Consultancy and Andrew Mitchell from Avad Consulting together with the historic building experts from the Tywi Centre, will make this course a stimulating, inspiring and educational one which leads to an essential qualification for Retrofit Assessors.

Both courses will be delivered from the Tywi Centre on 3 occasions between now and the end of June 2022 and thanks to Community Renewal Funding the 1-day course for owners of old buildings is FREE, whilst the 2-day accredited Award is very heavily subsidised.  You can find out more and make a booking by clicking on the course titles below
